Sep 14, 2017· Close the filling valves when the pressure gauge hits 1 bar. As cold water enters the boiler, the arm on the pressure gauge should begin to move up from 0. When it moves to 1 bar, turn the valves clockwise into the off position. This will turn off the flow of water. After 30 seconds, the pressure in the boiler should stabilize.
The boiler should read between 1 to 1.5 bar of pressure when the central heating is cold. If this drops too low, below 0.5 bar for example, this normally means water has been lost from the central heating heating system and the filling loop must be used to replace this water.
Boiler pressure is one of the most common faults associated with the heating system, however there is an easy fix. When the heating system is cool, the pressure should be between 1 and 1.5 bar on the pressure gauge. Watch our video on how to repressurise your system here.

Eric's graph indicates "gauge pressure". When you use the steam tables, you have to add "atmospheric pressure" (Patm) to "gauge pressure" (Pg) to get "absolute pressure" or P. Adding 1 bar at sea level is about right. 1 bar = 0.987 atmosphere = 29.53 inches of mercury
So naturally, the water pressure is high hence the bar pressure required is high. It is always recommended 8 bar pressure geysers for high rise buildings for better results in water pressure handling. In case of an independent house, the pressure is slightly low, therefore it is recommended to get a 6 or 6.5 bar pressure water heater for your home.
If your boiler pressure gauge needle is below 1 bar or in the critical red zone you will need to repressurise the system. To increase the boiler pressure you will need to add mains cold water to the system using the external filling loop. Make sure that the boiler is turned off and completely cooled down before you start.
